Self Promoting Your New Website

After launching a new website by far the easiest and most cost-effective thing you can do to promote its existence is quite simply to tell everyone you know about it.

After staff members, your existing customers will usually be your most receptive audience, but don't forget about suppliers, contractors and any competitors that you might be friendly with. Website promotion should start with people you know.

Draw up a list and go through the names, one by one. Don't forget about friends, family and acquaintances. People like to talk and you never know who knows who.

Update your stationary, print flyers and send out press releases. Join networking groups, attend local meetups and always carry business cards.

As for press releases, trade publications are often a good place to start as they have a vested interest in writing about your market sector and also because they need to fill their columns with something relevant each time they publish.

A well-written press release will often be gratefully received by publishers as an easy job done and the same can be also said of local newspapers. These days anything that is put into print will also find its way into a publication's online edition and this can give a real boost to search engine listings.

The business of promoting your website should never stop. Always be on the lookout for opportunities to get into a conversation and don't be afraid to make mention of what you do and how people can find out more. You never know where a conversation can lead and people will often go on to promote your website for you.

If you don't get enthused about promoting your website, nobody else will either.
